At BARDO Inclusive, we believe inclusion and sustainability go hand in hand. We cannot build equitable futures without also protecting the planet that sustains us all. As a values-led organisation, we are committed to minimising our environmental impact while maximising our positive social impact.

This policy outlines our sustainability commitments, practices, and areas for continuous improvement.

1. Our Approach

We take a systems thinking approach to sustainability, recognising the interdependence of environmental health, social justice, and economic wellbeing.

 

We commit to:

  • Embedding sustainable thinking into every aspect of our work

  • Prioritising low-impact, ethical, and regenerative choices

  • Taking responsibility for our footprint, even as a small business

  • Encouraging our clients and partners to do the same

2. Our Commitments

Environmental Responsibility

  • Operate as a predominantly digital-first business to reduce travel and materials use

  • Minimise energy consumption by using cloud-based, low-carbon technologies

  • Choose suppliers and platforms with strong sustainability and ethical standards

  • Reduce waste through reuse, repair, and recycling wherever possible

  • Design digital resources that are accessible and efficient to load and share

 

Ethical Procurement

  • Source from businesses and platforms that are environmentally and socially responsible

  • Prioritise local, independent, or mission-led suppliers for events and services

  • Avoid partnerships with companies whose practices conflict with our values (e.g., fossil fuels, exploitative labour)

Events & In-Person Activities

  • Select venues that prioritise accessibility, sustainability, and community benefit

  • Minimise printed materials and unnecessary packaging

  • Offer low-carbon or plant-based catering options as standard

  • Encourage car-sharing, public transport, or remote participation where possible

3. Social Sustainability

We recognise that social justice and environmental justice are inseparable.

 

Our inclusion work contributes to a more sustainable world by:

  • Creating fairer access to education, leadership, and opportunity

  • Valuing lived experience and community knowledge

  • Designing for long-term behavioural change, not quick fixes

  • Supporting work-life balance, wellbeing, and purpose-led careers

4. Monitoring & Review

We are a learning organisation and review our sustainability practices annually or when our operations change. Where needed, we seek expert advice or feedback from our community.

We aim to be transparent about:

  • Our carbon footprint and travel emissions

  • Our partnerships and procurement standards

  • Our areas for growth or improvement
